I don’t think I have an answer to that. Sorry. I’m not a big fan of them either but I make do.

Yeah. At least you’ll have fun with your family and stuff, though. I guess it is a nice day to come together with relatives.

Not a fan i’m guessing?
Yeah, you guess right. I’ve never really been a fan of any holiday except for birthdays and Christmas. What’s the point of them?
Clair furrowed her eyebrows at the other girl’s words. Blondie pessimistic girl. Is that how people identified her? She couldn’t deny that it fit but it was also a very strange nickname to give a stranger. “Yeah…I guess that’s me.” This girl was a bit too bubbly for her tastes, but this was her party and the whole point of a party was to socialize so she smiled and walked alongside the other girl, arms linked. Clair snorted at Ariana’s first question and opened her mouth to answer until she noticed that the other girl hadn’t stopped talking yet. It reminded her of Caroline so she just smiled and waited for her turn to speak. Once the girl has paused and then apologized, Clair took a deep breath and started to answer all the questions. “Tyler’s last name is Lockwood but I call him Smallwood to piss him off and because he’s completely whipped my cousin. It never really occurred to me that other people might be confused about it.” Before answering Ariana’s second question, she tried to think of how much to reveal to a complete and total stranger. She gave a little shrug before speaking, “Well, I kind of hate people in general. I was….when you were a kid do you remember going to the park and there’d always be that one kid that looked like they didn’t belong and so everyone avoided them? I was that kid.” Needing a moment, she stopped walking and took a few deep breaths. She wasn’t a huge fan of talking about how isolated her childhood was but it was the easiest was to explain part of her dislike of people. After reigning her emotions in, she started walking again. “I should probably also mention that by and large my experiences with people have ended badly so I just don’t like people until they give me enough reasons to try and like them.” The whole not having a filter thing was probably the only thing they had in common. “In case you haven’t been able to tell, I’m not good with filters either,” she turned to look at Ariana, “What about you? Why are you so upbeat all the time?” If this girl was going to pry into her life it was only fair that she got to do the same.
The Smallwood and Lockwood situation cleared up very easily for her. And to Ari, it actually seemed like her and Clair would be getting along. “Well that’s nice. You do it just to piss him off?” She paused to laugh a bit and shook her head before continuing, “I see how that works though. Making fun of his manhood. Every man’s weakness. No matter what they are.” Her eyes widened a bit at her slip, realizing that she can’t just say everything that comes to mind because not everyone is like her. “I know exactly what you mean. You don’t have to feel bad about that. I’ve been the new kid almost every year since I was fifteen, and even before that I was sort of a loner.” Looking over at her when she decided to ask questions of her own, she pursed her lips and shrugged. “I guess… people gravitate more to people who are upbeat and since I move so much, I try to fit in as much as I can before my aunt and uncle decide they want to move again. I don’t like being alone. Not since… well, yeah.”
Clair smoothed down the front of her dress as she surveyed the party from the top of the stairs. Everything was going to plan but it still felt…off. She wasn’t entirely sure why, but it did. Maybe it was just normal to be this nervous when throwing your first party but she wasn’t entirely convinced. She felt the room to start to close in on her and she needed to get out. Quinn might kill her but it’d be worth it if she could just breath again. She was so caught up in running down the stairs and out of the house that it didn’t really occur to her that other people might be moving around until she bumped into one. “Shit, I’m so sorry. I just…I was..I’m sorry,” she smiled apologetically. “You’re..um…Ariana?” It would be beyond embarrassing if she had just called the girl by the wrong name but so many new people had moved her recently that it was hard to keep track. “I’m Clair. Welcome to my party…I guess. Sorry I almost ran you over.” Her nerves were getting the best of her and she could feel her face flushing. It figured that her independence party would start with her fucking stuff up. She was pretty much useless on her own.
Ariana was planning on many things to happen that night, but to be almost trampled by someone coming down the stairs? Definitely not one of them. On any normal occasion, she would harass the other person with profane words and ask what was wrong with them, but on seeing the girl’s face she refrained. “Aha! Blondie pessimistic Clair girl. I’ve been waiting to meet you in person. Don’t worry about that, by the way. To be honest, it happens often.” Giving the blonde a wide smile, she linked their arms and began walking away from the staircase. “I have a question. Tyler guy, is his last name Smallwood or Lockwood? Well, okay, two questions, actually. What’s the deal with your pessimistic attitude? Do you just hate new people like me or is there more to it?” Pausing, Ari looked over at the girl and bit down on her bottom lip in nervousness. “Sorry. I tend to speak without a filter, so if I’m rude, just tell me straight up.”
Ari had found a gorgeous flapper dress in the back of her closet that she forgot about, and borrowed (stole) a few items of jewelry from her aunt and put those on before heading to Tyler Whateverwood’s house. Ariana still wasn’t exactly sure what this Tyler guy’s last name was. Clair called him Smallwood, and others called him Lockwood. But all she knew was that she was attending a 20’s party at his house and she was pretty excited about it. Her date with Brittany went absolutely amazing the night before, and she was actually starting to feel accepted in this town. Stepping into the house, she looked around at the familiar and unfamiliar faces before continuing further in the house. Party mode: on.
